I Think I Need To Be Committed After Today!!

Today I went to the school to help Hannah's teacher Mrs. McAffee. She is feeling very overwhelmed and so I volunteered to come in and do some of her busy work that occupies a lot of her time. I got there at 8:10 a.m. and stayed until 11:15 a.m. I got a lot done but by the time I left I wanted to slit my wrists!! HOLY CRAP--teaching Kindergarten is one h*l! of a job!! The kids are noisy, they have limited attention spans, they each wanted her attention or mine constantly, they have ENDLESS questions and on and on. There is one boy in the class that speaks no English. He hits and bites the other kids and can't sit still. I am sure that the communication barrier makes it very hard for both him and the teacher.
With all of that I wanted to commit harry carrey, but there was Mrs. McAffee--patient, sweet and loving the entire time. When it was time to go she told each of the children that she loved them and couldn't wait to see them again tomorrow. Hannah is very lucky to have her. I was very impressed!! I guess that is why I am not a teacher--I have NO patience--NONE AT ALL!! Thank goodness for teachers that do!!

People ask me all the time how I can work with at-risk teenagers. I ask the same question to elementary school teachers. I actually interned for a 2nd grade teacher for 4 years in high school and college, and it made me realize I could never be a teacher.

Blessed be the teachers. If they left it up to me, they would all be teathered to a chair in straight jackets.

Oooo I agree. Thank heavens for teachers like those. I think I'll just handle my own kindergardeners some day.

Again, so nice of you to help!!

It takes a very special person to hang out with 5 year olds all day and then come back the next!!!!

AMEN, Sister! I would be on the 6:00 news if I were a kindergarten teacher.

I am SO glad I don't have to deal with that.
Although... I deal with Defendants all day, and their behavior sounds pretty much the same at the 5 yr olds. LOL

I wish that I had more opportunites to go in and help out my kids classes. It's hard with a baby.

I think the teacher thinks you are a saint too! Thank goodness for moms like you.

I always wanted to be a teacher and kindergarten was my grade of choice. Then I worked at a day care and quit within a month.

Victoria-
If you have A LOT of patience it would work but if you don't--go to a higher grade!!

Kristina-
I think that your job is pretty much the same as a Kindergarten teacher--I envy the patience that you have (I really have to stop being jealous and envying--gotta go repent now!).

Christa-
Ask their teachers if there is something you can do at home for them--like cutting, stapling, sorting, ect. A lot of teachers need that kind of help too!

Jo-
Thanks--I will be going in every other Thursday to help her--WISH ME LUCK!!

Brittany-
Ditto to what I said to Kristina--more repenting to do!!

Me-
I would just use duct tape! haha!!

Whitney-
I only hae 1 kindergartener and she is hard enough to handle!

Bobie-
Amen to that!

Wendy-
I very well could be on the news next time I go help--watch for me!!

Last year I would go and help in my son's kindergarten class... There was one kid that would drive the whole class crazy! Once he was trying to make the other kids think I was his mom. I so wanted to kick that kid!

Just SO said...

Kindergartner's crack me up! But I could never teach them. Most of the time I can be pretty patient but when I lose it, watch out.

I think that I'm known as the "mean mom" of our neighborhood.

OH. MY. GOSH!! We were meant to be blog buddies--I am the "mean mom" of our neighborhood too!! Even the mom's are scared of me!

Mommy Madness-
Yeah--there is ALWAYS one kid...that you want to kick!

This sounds like complete chaos! And people have told me to be a grade school teacher, but just because you ADORE kids like I do, does NOT mean you can handle 20 or so...on your own...all day.
I still remember my first grade teacher and how kind she was when I lost my first grandparent. And she knit us all pins for EVERY holiday. Hearts for Valentines, Bunnies for Easter...I don't know how she did it. Elementary school teachers can be saints!!

Good Kindergarten teachers have earned their heavenly reward! After the birthday party I had for my 5 year old last year (in which we invited 5 friends) - I knew that I made the right decision by not going into elementary ed.!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog Jillene...you are quite the delight! :)

I have no patience either, I'd have hugged each goodbye and said, "thanks for the 'great' day, and now I love you a little bit less."
