Today is Olivia's 3rd Birthday. I am going to tell her birth story--sorry if this is too boring for some of you but it is VERY important to me and since this is my blog and my journal I will do whatever I want!! (0;
Olivia was kind of a surprise pregnancy. I knew that I wanted another baby but Matt just wasn't convinced that we were supposed to have another one. SURPRISE!! My pregnancy was going REALLY great!! I was beginning to think that the high blood pressure/toxemia was going to pass me up this pregnancy. I only gained 12lbs. my entire pregnancy and other than the first 3 months I felt GREAT. When I went in for my 34 week check up all of my hopes and dreams for a "normal" pregnancy and delivery were crushed. My blood pressure was 195/98 and my Dr. put me on bed rest. I went home and cried for about 2 hours--I was devistated! The next day I got this headache that I couldn't get rid of. My Dr. was really worried about it so he would call and check on me every night. It ended up lasting for 2 weeks--good times. He had me go to LDS Hospital for a stress test but he wanted me in the Labor/Delivery area so that I had my own nurse. She had me pee in a cup, get into a gown and get in the bed. I was waiting for her to come back and hook me up to the monitors and all of the sudden she comes in with an IV. I told her that she was in the wrong room because I was just here for observation. She replies, "Sorry. There is protein in your urine which means that you have contracted Toxemia and you Dr. said just to start labor". What the? I was only 36 weeks!! Oh well-Dr's orders right?!
They got me all hooked up to the IV's and baby monitors and we were on our way. This was 11:00 a.m. I had to be given magnesium so that I wouldn't have a stroke or seizure as well as pitocin. However, the magnesium stops labor so it is a long process--oh yeah--and it makes you really SICK. The nurse kept coming in a checking me and I just couldn't seem to get past a 3. The attending came in a broke my water hoping to speed things up....no such luck. I still had the massive headache and I was just done. My family and my friends kept calling for updates but I had no good news. Finally at about 10:40 p.m. I knew that things were progressing because I started throwing-up (sorry again about throwing-up in your ear Kristen). I called the nurse because it came out of nowhere and I puked ALL OVER the floor. Good times. She came back and mopped it up (how embarrassing) when she finished she came back and checked me--I was at a 7. YEAH!! Finally some progress!! She left again (by this time it was 11:30p.m.) and I started to feel pressure and I wanted to push. I called her back to my room and she checked me and I was at a 10 and the baby's head was RIGHT there. They were trying to get a hold of my Dr. but couldn't seem to. His wife finally called and he was in the hospital with serious dehydration. They quickly called one of his associates Dr. Jones and she was there in record time, gowned up and ready to go. I pushed once and Olivia was born at 12:04 a.m.
She was BEAUTIFUL!! She had dark, dark hair and she looked JUST like her brother and sister. She weighed 6lbs. 8oz. and was 19-1/2 inches long. They gave her to me right then while the Dr. finished up (no gory details). Seriously--the Dr. was only there for 10 minutes tops. She said that I was the easiest delivery she has ever had. I didn't have to have any stitches and I felt great!! They took her and cleaned her off, gave her shots and tested her coloring. I got her back and was able to nurse her. She took right to it and nursed for about 45 minutes on each side. Matt then took her to give her a bath and they took me to my room. I would have LOVED to go home that afternoon but when you have Toxemia you have to stay on the magnesium for 24 hours after delivery because there is still a chance for stroke or seizure. Blah!!
I did as I was told and when I was able to get rid of the IV I was bound and determined to get out of bed myself. I had an older lady for my nurse and she just laughed and told me to go ahead and try. I got up and fell back onto the bed--I was SUPER dizzy!! So, yet again I needed help to get to the bathroom and couldn't go home yet. I started to feel better that day and once I could get up on my own they discharged me. I was SO glad!!
Olivia is such a WONDERFUL daughter. She is, for sure, a handful but I wouldn't have her any other way. She makes us laugh (and cry sometimes) and she is a mini-diva taking after her big sister. Our family wouldn't be complete without her. I LOVE YOU OLIVIA!! Happy Birthday!!
*P.S.--this should have posted at 9:30 this morning but thanks again to my buddies at Qwest for dropping my internet just as I finished typing the post. They are getting an irate call from me today!!

Happy Birthday Livie!! Love ya.
Birth stories make me squeemish--I know, I'm such a wimp. So thanks for all the wonderful bold words and pictures because they conveyed what you wanted to say perfectly--I think! Happy B-day to her.
I remember that day so clearly, tell your mom that I am sorry I called her so many times that day to check on you... good thing I already had kids when this happend so you throwing up in my ear was no big deal. I love Livy's personality, I hope she has a really happy divalicious birthday. I still haven't witnessed the naughty that you talk about only the angel side of her!
Happy Birthday Olivia! I hope you have a great day.
Happy birthday! Glad you were both good, and safe and sound.

I think it is important to remember the details and the story--my mom did it for us and told it to us EVERY year and still does!!
Mary-
Are you trying to tell us something? (0; Please have another one and then let me come over like ALL of the time to hold it and snuggle it and kiss it's whole face--seeing as how I can't have anymore and I am baby hungry!!
Mommy and Vanessa-
Thank you, thank you!!
That was a great story. I have to admit, I like to hear labor stories. But I do have to wonder - who came up with the idea of ugly teddy bear blankets for the hospital that every child has pictures with? Your baby is beautiful, the blankets are just so ugly! :)
What a beautiful baby! They grow up so fast. I hope she had a great Birthday!
PS... It might be Molotov Cocktail time... Involving Qwest I mean..
Those are great pictures. Happy birthday Olivia!

Aww. Glad I found your blog! It makes me SOOO baby hungry!
Woops. Sorry it posted twice?? Stupid BLOGGER!
I was so happy to read this wonderful post. I love journaling on my blog too. It's why I started this blogging business in the first place :0)
I think it is so funny that your daughter's birthday is today and yours is on Thursday THE REASON it's funny is that my daughter's birthday is on Friday and mine is Sunday. We might be soul sisters. Can't wait to win that jewelry.
Happy Birthday Olivia (LOVE that name).
April-
Welcome!! I love new blog friends! I will now be checking out your blog!!

Mine is actually on Saturday--but hey at least you remembered!! I think that we are soul sisters for sure--and Ramona too!! I loved you both and can't WAIT to get together again!!
happy birthday to your sweet baby girl!
I could have written this post as well. i related on SO MAnY" issues with my first born. I too was put on magnesium, I threw up, i had the shakes, i spilled protein, for all 4 of my children.
My blood pressuer was was 200/145 when they gave me the meds, my bp plummetted and dropped to something over 80 and I got dizzy and passed out. It was scary. I am so glad that you and she survived and are doing well!
Mother Goose--
OH MY HECK!! We are the same!! I had the same problem with all 3 pregnancies!! My blood pressure would be REALLY high and then they woudl start the meds and it would plummet and then they would hae to give me meds to bump it up because it caused the baby to go into stress. I barfo'ed, passed out and all of that good stuff too!! We are SO much alike!!
Wow we have similar stories! I had pre-eclampsi & they gave me magnesium sulfate & pitocin, but it took 30hrs for me to get to a 8, & they realized my body was so exhausted it needed a rest! so they wanted to stop the pictocin then start it again in 6 hrs, & i freaked out & said get this baby outta me! & opted out for a c section i was a mess i was being a wench to everyone thats for sure! I can't believe 1 push! thats amazing! happy bday olivia!
That scares me.
Thank you for scaring me into not having premarital sex because I'm terrified of getting pregnant. haha
And hey, anything to not get a stroke is AMAZING in my eyes. Strokes are one of the saddest things I've ever witnessed the results of. Seriously. I might commit suicide instead of living after a stroke. That's how bad it is.
yes, we relate! I heart you on so many different levels.
Do you know with my last child, well after number 2 they didn't want me to have anymore.
I knew there was another boy to be born.
my girls I had a much easier pregnancy with but still very high risk. But, they had misdiagnosed me with my 3 pregnancies, Cardio myopathy masks or gives the same symptoms as pre eclampsia or pregnancy induced hypertention, with the induction of the births it helped my symptoms go away and I got better, except on the last
pregnancy. Instead of allowing my body to go naturally I had to have a c section and that was a bit too much trauma for my body. I actually had cardio myopathy, enlarged heart and it gave me congestive heart failure 3 times in one week. We were both critically ill. But, we are great now. Needless to say, I can have no more children.
Aww I hope she had a great Birthday! I loved your story, I am so sorry being pregnant has been so SCARY for you...makes me glad I am single...cuz that sounded AWFUL! A 2 week headache! I have migraines and if I had one for 2 weeks I'd have killed myself by then!!
I can't believe your doctor was in the hospital himself...LOL!
wow, what a story. Can you imagine how BIG she would have been if she'd gone the whole 40 weeks? That is a pretty big early baby. Happy bday! to Olivia,( such a great name too)
Victoria-
30 hours!! What the? My magnesium births (#1 & #3) lasted 12-1/2 hours and 13-/1/2 hours--but 30? Holy crap!!
Julie-
Don't be scared!! It is ALL worth it!! I have seen stroke victims too and I ffel the same way!! O.K. maybe not Zach but Hannah and Olivia--Hannah was 2 weeks early and weighed 7lbs. 4oz. CRAZY!!
Kristen H.-
NOW I remember!! See, it takes jogging my memory. I hope Jordyn had a FANTASTIC birthday!!
Mother Goose-
HOLY CRAP!! That is scary! I really wanted anohter one SO bad but my bladder is practically hanging out of my body and needs to be surgically "slung up" which means no more babies for me either--my Dr. says I have a bladder defect of a 70 year old woman--crazy!!
Wendyburd-
I did want to cut my head off!! It was HORRIBLE!! But look what the end result is....it was all worht it!!
Lisa-
All of my babies were early and if they would have been term they ALL would have been BIG!!
Happy Birthday yesterday Lila!!
30hrs I KNOW ridiculous
