Can You Hear Me Now?

Is it just me or do kids have selective hearing? Lately it seems like the only way I can get my 3 kids to listen to me is to yell (and I mean loud) at them! I will call one of them for something up to 4 times before the yelling begins (I'm sure my neighbors think I am either crazy, or mean, or a bad parent or maybe all 3!). My 5 year old is especially bad! I tell her things over and over again and she just ignores me. This frustrates me SO much! I want to bang my head against a wall most days just out of pure frustration! I am always telling my mom that my kids never listen and of course she sides with them--that is until Sunday. Zachary, Eden and Hannah were riding scooters and Brooklyn and Olivia were running around and I kept telling the older 3 to slow down and watch out for the babies. Zachary and Eden listened but Hannah not so much. She ran over Olivia once and then almost hit her 5 other times. I kept yelling at her to stop and to slow down and she wouldn't even acknowledge that I existed. Needless to say--my mom now believes that my kids don't listen! Hooray for small victories!!

I'm right there with you. I can yell and scream and dance around like a monkey in from of Cameron, and he still won't acknowledge that I'm there. I guess this is what you call a "one track mind". They only focus on and hear what they want to.

This is definitely a trait our precious children get from their lovely fathers! Selective Hearing! How to solve? Maybe we should start the Selective Mom Duties club. We get to be selective about which mom duties we want to do and which ones we don't.
