Nothing Says Merry Christmas Like A Trip To The Emergengy Room

Today was the big day!! The day that I finally put away all of the Fall/Halloween (yes....I still had Halloween stuff up. What can I say--I love Halloween) stuff and put up all of the Christmas stuff. I had to pick up Z from school so I had my husband get things ready so that when homework was said and done we could get festive.

I arrived home to a clean living room, the Fall box ready to be filled, and the Christmas tree and ornaments in the corner ready to go. I got all of the Fall things wrapped up and put in their box and I asked my husband to take the box to the storage room. He grabbed it and made his way down the stairs. Little did he know that O had been playing with one of these

on those very stairs and left it lying there in the way. He had a big box and did not see said Barbie and the next thing I heard was a HUGE CRASH, BANG, BUMP and BOOM!! I came running and found that he had slipped on the Barbie and fell down the stairs. I was calling, I mean screaming, his name and he was kind of unresponsive. That is when I FREAKED out. He finally managed to get up and get to Z's bed. He had hurt his ankle and thought maybe it was broken. He was as white as a ghost and in immense pain. He decided that he needed to have it checked out so we were off to the Emergency room.

Luckily for me, my parents live super close to the Hospital so I dropped the kids off and we headed over. Of course it was a forever wait but they got him in a room, x-rayed his ankle and then we waited for the Dr. He finally came in and told us that while it wasn't broken, it was sprained very badly with some torn/pulled tendons. He informed us that he would have been better off if it was in fact broken. The nurse wrapped it and put on a lovely ankle boot/shoe thing. He was given instructions to walk with crutches or a cane only and to keep off of it as much as possible. We were then told that it will take at least 6 weeks to fully heal.

They gave us our paperwork and sent us on our merry way. Oh wait--not before I had to pay the $75.00 co-pay. So all in all it could be a lot worse--that is until we get the $500-$1,000 bill!! Merry Christmas to us!!

*P.S. I know that I am yet again absent from comments on your posts but PLEASE forgive me!! I have SO many that I missed so I am not even going to try to catch up. I will, however, be commenting on anything new tomorrow. I am off to take care of my husband!!*

Holy cow! I am so sorry!

Adam pretty much broke his toe this week, and has to wear this boot thing. The only reason I didn't post about it and it being karma was because he didn't send me any pictures.

Oh my gosh, I hope he is alright. Those sprains are the worst. I break is better, for realsies. That darn Barbie... they shrink her chesticles and she does nothing but cause shenanigans to get back at Mattel. She is only hurting the good people who pay outrageous prices to hang out with her! I hope he feels better soon. Pain meds can be soooo good :)

Jillene, I'm sorry to hear that. I'll bet he will be nice and sore today. Darn Barbie, she's trouble I say!

Oh my gosh! That is simply terrifying! So sorry to hear about his ankle, what a nice Christmas present. I am glad to hear he is not any worse off, the unresponsive things scared me and I was worried he had hit his head.

Krissy said...

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry he's hurt. I would have been screaming about the Barbie. lol

Yuck! I am so sorry to hear this. I injured my ankle and knee a few years ago. Sometimes a bad sprain IS worse than a break. I hope he heals well and quickly.

Oh... and I have to ask... did the Barbie become maimed in any way during the process? Wouldn't it have been cool if she was decapitated?

OH that sucks! Hope he starts to feel some relief soon.

Yikes! Sorry!!

Jillene said...

Jo-
I was worried about that as well but he was in shock. He was hurt and the pain was so bad that he couldn't really get his bearings. Nothing else injured--just the ankle!!

An yes Barbie is a homewrecker!! I wish she would have suffered a worse fate than some of my Fall decorations!! (0:

Those boots suck!! I hope he feels better...make sure he takes the Lortab before the pain gets severe or it won't work well.

Oh no! Yeah pulled/torn tendons are not pretty. I hope that he's a fast healer.

Leave it to barbie, the home wrecker. That is awful..... Hey, I finally put up my Christmas decorations yesterday too. I didn't, however, crap up my foot in the process. The doctor is right about it being better to have a break than a sprain. They can be murder. (So I hear.) Tell Matt I'm sorry and I hope he heals quickly.

rachel said...

Oh how awful!! I hope he feels better soon and I'm right there with ya- love those medical bills just in time for Christmas :(

So I'm guessing that the NEW Barbie that O was going to get for Christmas is going back to the store? ;)

Get better, M!

That is awful! I hope the Lortab is working. And I hope you aren't going crazy with all of the extra work you are having to do!

Poor thing, I really hope he heals quickly!!

PS don't do another post for awhile, I really lilke seeing your Barbie Doll picture on the sidebar of my blog, we don't get barbies hanging out at my house (wink, wink).

Jillene said...

Kristen-
Sorry but one is coming tomorrow. I think that I need yo buy you a Barbie for Christmas. Then you can play with it in secret--no one will know!!

Annette Anthony said...

GOODNESS! What next? Attack of the Polly Pockets. So is he going to be able to work? I know he is on his feet a lot at work! What to do! Crazy!

Bobie said...

Tell Matt I hope he gets better soon. I feel so bad!! HEY... if you are gonna play barbies, I wanna come!!

Vanessa said...

UGH! I hate when the kids leave toys around and I don't see them!!!!

I hope he feels ok soon. The big question is, did he get all the stuff up before he fell?

Holly said...

This must be why Butterfly is so scared of Barbie. She always has been, but I couldn't figure out why. Had I known Barbie was out there committing crimes just short of manslaughter I would have backed her up more on the anti-Barbie campaign she's been on.

Jillene said...

Annette-
Work is going to be tough. But knowing him--he won't let a stupid ankle injury stop him!!

Jillene said...

Vanessa-
Matter of fact--NO!! Nothing got accomplished. I ended up doing it today. He helped as much as he could.

Don't you all like the way I had to answer them sepeartly in 2 different comments? I just could NOT bear to leave it at 39 comments. I had to make it 40!!

I hate when kids leave stuff on the stairs. Next time my kids do that, I'll tell them your sad tale!

Alyson-
My kids have learned a lesson the hard way. They now know NOT to leave anything on the stairs!!
