Yesterday was HORRIBLE!! It was filled with whimpering and crying (on both our parts) and starting at 3:00pm it was filled with........vomit. Good times. She only threw up 3-4 times but then again she had nothing in her little stomach to throw up. So then she was dry heaving and she kept saying (while she was sobbing), "Mommy, my throw up is broken. It won't work." I felt so bad for her.
Then things got scary. Her fever was up to 104 degrees and she hadn't urinated for 12 hours. We called the Dr.'s office and they told me that if I couldn't get her to pee in the next hour then we needed to take her to Primary Children's Hospital. I ran her into the bathroom and prayed (yes--I prayed for her to pee) and after about 5 minutes she finally went. I put her in a luke warm tub for 30 minutes--which brought her fever down for about 1 hour. Then she was right back to burning up again. I started giving her 1 teaspoon of Gatorade every 10 minutes to keep her hydrated. And thank goodness she was keeping it down so that I could give her Tylenol. If she continued to vomit I would have had to do Tylenol Suppositories and that would have been NO FUN!!
Her fever finally broke around 2:00am but then of course she was thirsty. So I stayed up with her for a second night and kept giving her Gatorade every 10 minutes. She slept on and off--which means so did I. And then to top everything off--she woke up at 7:15 this morning and her nose was gushing blood. UGH!!
She is keeping fluids down and she just ate a piece of toast. She is playing with her brother as I type this so I think she is just fine. Now I just hope and pray that none of my other kids, or myself get this flu bug. I need some sleep!!

Peyton didn't have the puking. Just the high fever and was very sad. I'm glad she's keeping things down now. Good luck!
oh wow. I hate when they're THAT sick. So helpless and I never seem to get their fevers down...
Bear ended up in Orange County Children's when we were in Disneyland with febrile seizures because it got so bad! Nothing like calling missionaries you don't know to come give your baby a blessing in a vomit-infested hotel room.
POor little O! I hope that this breaks soon, Jillene.
I hope she gets feeling well soon!
Whew! What a scare, especially with the swine flu around. I'm glad she's on the upswing! Once you get dehydrated from throwing up, you get sicker if you don't get yourself hydrated because of the ketones. If you hydrate yourself, like you were doing every 10 minutes, the ketones will eventually subside and you can hold things down! Just a little tidbit because I vomited and vomited my whole pregnancy because of those stupid ketones. Had to keep going to the hospital for IV's. Anyway, sorry to hear about your family and I'll pray it doesn't spread in your family!
Fever of 104??? That is way scary!
Poor Poor dear! For your sake and theirs..I hope nobody else in your house gets this bug!
Scary! I hope she is over the bug and will keep feeling better.
Wow that is scary! I am really glad she is doing better today. That was a rough night for sure!
No fun when kids are sick especially in the summer! I hope she gets feeling better and you both get some good rest

I'm so sorry that that happened. :(
Her nose was gushing blood? That sounds scary! And I'm happy you didn't have to use the suppositories. That would have been no fun at all.
That's the worst flu bug I have ever heard of! I am so sorry!!!
sadface
I have had nights like that too, I am so sorry! They really do suck! Hope she is well soon.
I hope you guys are all in the clear now.

Poor O and poor you!! That sounds horrible and I totally get her "throw up is broken"! When you need to and can't, it can be worse than actually doing so!
I am so glad she's feeling a bit better now.
