A Camping We Will Go----Or NOT!!

Camping is just NOT my thing. I hate sleeping in a tent, I hate having dirt under my fingernails, I hate being dirty period. And one of the other reasons I hate camping is because of this following story. Sher encouraged me to share this on my blog so here goes.

We went to Crystal Hot Springs when I was a Sophomore in High School. I had one of these delicious things:

I set it on the picnic table to do something and then I picked it up again to take another drink. When the dark red yummy liquid finished going down my throat I was left with something bulky in my mouth. I spit it out onto the ground and that is where I saw this:

That's right folks--it was a bee. In a matter of minutes my lips were the size of these:

I am allergic you see. I looked like a freak. Now my Dad--being helpful grabbed a huge handful of mud and shoved it into my mouth. Great plan except for my mouth full of braces. I was digging mud and dirt out of those suckers for days. I got to go to the Hot Springs looking like some kind of monster. Good times. Just another reason why I hate camping. The sad part is that my husband and children love to camp. I humor them once a year and I go on the Ward Campout. It is only one, miserable, sleepless night, and I love them so I go. I'm not sure about this year though--it falls on the 14th of August and my Anniversary is the 15th. I am still debating.

I don't even need a bee to almost kill me to hate camping!

I don't know what it is, but I've developed a real dislike for camping in the past year. Probably because I can never sleep!

We'll be going. It's my only campout for the year too. I just don't get what's so great about packing up your whole house and going out into the wilderness. Everything comes home smelling like fire and covered in dirt and you have to spend the next few days cleaning it all up.

I have been stung by a bee on my lip too! It swelled up to the size of a baseball, I however am not allergic. I think I would hate camping if I were you too!

You poor thing! I didn't know mud had any properties that could help. Wow and yuck.

Nope, camping is out of the question for me. You'd better REALLY think this over because it just doesn't sound so good. ;)

BV--Mud helps get the stingers out. He wanted to make sure that it was gone. As for the camping I am really dead set against it but when you have 3 adorbale children begging it tends to sway the mind!!

Kristina--that is my problem. I can't sleep. NO MATTER WHAT.

Christa--my thoughts EXACTLY!!

that experience would scar me for life.

I like camping, but I hate bugs. You can't have one without the other. I prefer pitching a tent in the back yard and roasting marshmellows over my very own fire pit. :)

I love camping but that bee story is scary. I'm glad you were ok.

Yikes! No wonder you hate camping.

I hate it too - I only go because I love my husband. I encourage him to take the boys, but he says it is all work and hardly any play when he goes by himself with them. He even says he sleeps BETTER in a tent than at home. What is wrong with him?!

I feel your pain. I got stung three times on one camping trip. Super fun.

I tried not to laugh at your story, but it was pretty funny :) I hope you recovered well. I keep saying I am going to go camping with my family, but I know one of them will fall in the fire pit or get bit by a snake or something. I will wait until they are older (but then I probably still won't want to go). I love camping, it's the thought of chasing my kids around for days that just isn't that appealing.

You are my kindred spirit...I HATE camping too! Unless, I told my husband, it is in a trailer :) Then it is more "bear"able. How exciting about your anniversary. I know I wouldn't be camping on the 14th! :)

I cannot imagine that pain! I just can't!!! augh

That is a horrible story! To get like that is bad enough, but with an allergy on top o fit...ughs!

Well, all I can say is get a trailer. Camping is breeze in our 5th wheel- showers, toilets, and you just step outside for the nature. Then all of you can be happy!
And I vote anniversary wins this one. Get away for a fabulous night!

Jesus, I would swear off camping after that. Bees terrify me. The thought of one in my MOUTH? No, just no.

OMG The bee in a drink is one of my nightmares!!!! I hate camping too, and I also am allergic to bee stings. I was stung once on vacation in North Carolina when I was 12 or so and it stung me on my boob, they were small boobs being I was wearing just a training bra... but the one it stung it on.... grew to a size D in a short period of time from swelling... ouch.....

I lucked out and married a man whose idea of Fathers and Sons is taking my son to dinner and a movie!!

I think he hates camping more than you do!

I hate camping, but it's really only because I hate getting dirty and having to pee in the woods. You have a MUCH better reason to hate it. I say don't go this year. You have my total support in that decision.

I HATE, HATE, HATE camping! I'm totally with you on this one.

I like camping in hotel rooms..really nice, bee free hotel rooms!

You poor thing! That would turn me off camping forever!

(thanks for your vote!)

SAD! I support you never camping again, either (o: I hate it, too. I dread the day I get called to be a Young Women's camp director.

Camping and I are definitely not friends.

I vote for bypassing the trip altogether and taking a few days for the family at the spa! Is that an option? :)

I would so pull the anniversary card and not go. Better yet, find a neighbor to take your kids so you and hubs can have a getaway!

I don't camp. I have decided that it's a nessisary childhood experience so I will take my kids a few times. I secretly hope they hate it.

Popped in from Kristina's to say hi!

Bees terrify me. Just the buzz freaks me out!

tell them you will go if, the next night he takes you, without kids, to a hotel and gets you a massage!

No wonder you don't like it! That clearly would have scarred anyone for life. Especially since it was during high school. Poor girl. Props for being a good sport.

I like camping. :) I've only got GOOD memories of it all. :)

oh my goodness, so funny, sorta! LOL
i love to camp. get a double decker air mattress and camp where there is electricity running to your site and where there are clean bathrooms with running water. Ummmm ok, that doesnt sound like camping much. LOL
but, if you have to cook over a fire that's camping.

Oh my goodness. I say you have every reason to not enjoy camping especially with that story! Of course, I am the chick who thinks its camping if the hotel room doesn't have a blow dryer. I mean, who doesn't have that in a hotel? I'm just sayin'...

At any rate, I hope you have fun if you go on the trip this year!

Thanks for considering this,

Oh that bee story is horrible! Poor you!
I have to admit that I DO love camping. I don't know why, but I do! I think it's the campfires. I haven't been in forever though. I don't love it enough to want to take little babies and toddlers with me.

Totally learned something new-

Never camp with your Dad!

MUD?! That's a new one for me.

Jillybean said...

Some women would pay big bucks for lips like that. I say get a patent the "Bee in a Shasta can" method for pouty lips.
I don't camp. I really enjoyed it when I was little and not old enough to help with the packing, cooking and clean up for everything involved. It was fun back then.

I am the kind of guy who loves to seek unused things. Currently I am constructing my personalized photovoltaic panels. I'm doing it all by myself without the aid of my staff. I am utilizing the internet as the only way to acheive this. I discovered a really brilliant website which explains how to create solar panels and wind generators. The place explains all the steps required to constructing photovoltaic panels.

I am not exactly sure about how precise the information given there is. If some guys over here who have xp with these things can have a peak and give your feedback in the thread it will be awesome and I would really treasure it, cauze I truly passion solar panel construction.

Thanks for reading this. U guys are great.
