Rat In The Kitchen

Never in the 10-1/2 years that I have lived in this house have I ever had such a scary/freaky experience as I had this morning. I got Olivia out of the bathtub and started combing her hair. Then I lotioned her down and started getting her dressed. I looked up for a split second and on the kitchen floor I saw this little gray thing (I did NOT have my glasses on). I looked again and IT WAS MOVING!! I screamed at Matt and he looked and saw it and it was a MOUSE!! HOLY FREAKING PEE MY PANTS CRAP!! I am talking a REAL mouse in MY house!! Not a "Rat in the Kitchen" like this (love this song by the way):

Not a cute little thing like this (it's cute because it's FAKE):

A REAL mouse in MY house!! I start FREAKING out, the girls are laughing and Matt is trying to catch it. It runs behind the entertainment center where he has it cornered. He starts trying to smash it but it is too quick for him. It disappears and he starts looking in the entertainment center--you know behind the Wii, the DVD player, the stereo, etc. and guess what he finds?! MOUSE DROPPINGS all through-out the entertainment center!! OH MY FREAKING HEART ATTACK WAITING TO HAPPEN!! He stayed home from church to try and catch that NASTY little bugger (that and because Hannah was sick) but guess what?! HE DIDN'T!! That sucker is here somewhere!! How am I going to sleep tonight? I am going to be up all night freaking out!! Luckily my mom had some De con so we didn't have to break the Sabbath and I hope it eats it and kills it ASAP!! So tonight while you are nestled all snug in your beds with sugar plum fairies dancing in your heads--think of me all snug in my bed with the covers up to my chin watching for beady little eyes that are trying climb up on my bed and feast on my toes!! BLAH!!

In the first apartment we lived in, mice unfortunately became a way of life. Yes, we purchased DeCon by the gallon.

This same apartment had SNAKES coming in through the heating vents! AAAUUUGGGHHH! It was awful.

Good luck. I hope you find a dead mouse in the morning.

Sounds like you need to spend some time on Whitney's farm.

ewwwwwwwwwwww! I'm freaking out with you!

Maybe its Santa Mouse? WHat if you kill it and Santa doesn't get his nice peice of cheese? Then Santa will be all grumpy and even the good little girls and boys will get lumps of coal. All because you killed Santa Mouse.

Holy crap, I just got over a daylong panic attack and now I'm having an anxiety attack!!! What the freak?!?!?! It's like I can feel one crawling on me as I type this... thanks, Jillene!! :P

love the new background!

Girlie You need to buy a CAT STAT! Make no delays!! Two even, that would keep them out of the house!

Ohhh Jillene, Jillene. I'm sorry. I know how terrified you are of mice. The de con is great until he eats it and nestles himself in your walls and dies there and then rots. The smell is HORRIFIC.

:) BUT, I have had mice eat the poison and die and I never saw/smelt them again. Hopefully that will be you! Or he will be dancing in your front room and die there.

We like the mice traps and sticky pads. The sticky pads are interesting.......

I hope you get him!!!

I battled with mice in my townhouse in HI...that I paid $1500 a month for!!! But, everyone on the island had something.
I used to feel bad about killing the mice...but then I saw the dropping, and urine behind my couch!
I used the glue boards, the deep black ones are the best, and you can hear them scream when they are caught. Just throw a piece of cardboard on top of the board and STOMP! The screaming ends, and you don't get your hands dirty.
I even caught one on my kitchen counter once using some tupperware....but then was confused at how I would kill it. So I sprayed some RAID under the edge and suffocating him. I don't feel bad b/c they were making a huge mess.
But, I would rather have the mice vs. the cane spiders I dealt with the last year we were on the island!

HOLY FREAKING PEE MY PANTS CRAP, indeed!
So sorry Jillene. Hope there aren't hundreds more living in the attic like in Ratatoui.

My skin is crawling with just the mere THOUGHT of mice. EWWWWWW.

I am so sorry. I must apologize for laughing at your story. It is your excellent story telling skillz, I promise. Maybe you guys should get a cat? I don't mind tame rodents, but I really don't like the thought of having wild ones running about either. Good luck!

Thanks for the scary bedtime story! Just what I needed before turning in for the night! I hope you catch him. I use to live in my parents basement after college and they had mice who came in from the barn this time of year and is could hear them at night after turning off the lights. I slept with my two dogs and they'd jump up and I'd hear the "crunch" them. I had to move out. Still to this day I wonder if my mom didn't set them loose to get me to move out! Good luck with your hunting. Tuck yourself in tight--and know I'll be having a nightmare or two for you!

The best thing is to just keep D-con around all the time. Keep it under the kitchen sink, behind the entertainment center. All the dark corners. You will never see them again because when they eat it, they go outside to find air and water. Then they die.

ROFL! that is so sad for you but hysterical in my head!
When i was like 7 my dad saw a mouse in the kitchen and I am not kidding you he threw a butter knife across the room and smacked that mouse to heaven!
Terrible just terrible for a young mind LOL

I am so sorry! There is nothing worse than those univited little critters, especially all they leave behind.

We have a little flock of winged ants that shows up every once in a while....we dig out the spray and ant traps...and \blah blah blah they are such a pain! I hope the rat is gone soon.

ARE you that scared of mice? True I have only seen store bought ones people pet, and dead ones Dad pulled from the hatchway, but mice are better than RATS! Right? LOL!

that stinks. I had one on my front porch today and that was bad enough ..

Ew! So i have a RAT TERRIER which are excellent for hunting & killing mice/rats, they usually keep them on farms cause they keep the rodents outta the barns, RAT terrier's hold the world record for killing 2500 rats in a span of seven hours! If ya wanna borrow her I wouldn't mind ;)

Thanks for the visual Jillene...I'm sure I'll sleep so much better tonight.

Happy mouse hunting today! ;-)

So we have DeCon in all of the dark places and at 1:00 this morning my husband went and bought some traps. He almost shot it with his be-be gun but missed by a hair. Hopefully this will work because if I see that little sucker today I am really going to have a heart attack!!

My neighbor feeds about 20 stray cats that roam all around my yard (except the back where the dog is) so that is why I am surprised that we have a mouse!! I will personally NOT be buying a cat--sorry to all of you who like/love them but I HATE them!!

And yes Wendyburd--mice are better than rats but not much. And yes I am THAT afraid of them!!

Oh, we get mice a few times a year because we live in the forest. I used to freak out, but not so much anymore. My hubby takes care of the mouse traps. I won't go that far!

oh my freaking, freak!! I am with you,, I hate hate hate mice. I really am terrified of them. I hope that you find that little bugger and nuke him. (I also do not like cats, so I do understand). I have to say, jillene my skin is crawling thinking about how yucky that little thing is runnning around your house.. ewwww. good luck sister!!

heather said...

That is freaky! But, if it is any comfort to you, MICE will run and hide. They don't want to be near you. SO they probably won't come to your bed. Set the traps out!

Oh and I have a GREAT MOUSE story. Hmm. Remind me to tell you about it!

I am so sorry! Matt told Steve that he spent all of church chasing it around your house with a hockey stick. I laughed. Not about the mouse because I know how you are about them but just picturing your husband having a battle with the mouse.

Okay I really don't like Cats (I actually Hate them) but if this happened to me I would go out and find a cat asap!

In Tooele Brandon and Melanie had a mouse and they used the de-con and it craweld in the back of the oven. Not inside but up in the instalation and died. They found it when it started to stink. Just like whitney r said to back her up!

I like the idea of sticky paper. Then you can make sure it gets disposed of and that its out!

Good luck! If you need to hang out at my house until its found your more than welcome.

I AM FREAKING OUT FOR YOU!!!! When my husband and I first got married, we lived in his grandpa's old farmhouse. We had mice ALL.THE.TIME. Like, running across my carpet into my closets in THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!!! GASP.

I would have freaked too!

as a owner of real rats, I have to say.... mice are gross!

LOL

my 10 year old ( the owner of said rats) would point out the difference between mice and rats.

it's strange, I know, but there is a difference and I hope you rest well tonight!

Brittany Marie said...

I would lend you Parley P. Cat, but he's useless against rodents. Mostly because I had him declawed.

Jillene said...

I am still paranoid about it. We have NOT seen it today (thank heavens) so I have NO idea if it has been trapped or if it ate the DeCon. Here's to hoping it is dead in the garage or outside somewhere!!

EEK! when I saw all your lint catchings. I was thinking oh my gosh I bet you have a mouse or two. LOL, they love that stuff. They make homes out of it.

We had a mouse before and dh went to trying to smash it too, but then I started screaming! I mean I DID NOT WANT TO clean up rat guts or rat brains all over the rug or floor! EWWWW, hope you get it. Borrow a neighbors cat!
