Chick Flick Saturday

Saturday was MY day. My husband was at work and the kids were banned to the toy room until it was clean (it only took them 8 hours that were filled with whining and crying and faking sick). I decided that I better get my scrapbook exchange pages done so I did that first and then it was Chick Flick Saturday. My sister-in-law Donna dropped off some movies for me to watch. The first was:

**WARNING--this is going to be REALLY UGLY!!** Now that you have been warned I will go on. This movie (if you can really call it that) was HORRIBLE!! I thought that because I love me some ABBA it would be o.k. but holy crap!! It was the worst movie that I think I have ever seen. The acting was terrible but the singing--oh man--that was in a league all it's own. You would think that if you were making a musical movie that you would cast actors and actresses that COULD ACTUALLY SING (Pirece; please, please for the love of all that is holy in the world DO NOT sing again--EVER!!). These people were ridiculous and painfully so!! All I could do was sit and laugh. I am the type of person that once I start a movie I have to see the end. I wanted to know which one was her real dad--guess what--NEVER found out!! How stupid is that?! So the jist of it--it was a waste of my time!!

Next I watched this:

It was o.k.--definetley better than the first one. It was kind of slow for me but there were some funny parts and I really loved Debra Messing and Cloris Leachman. I really don't have much else to say about it. I don't think that I will watch it again--once was enough.

So the Chick Flick Saturday was pretty much a bust. I should have just watched Food Network all day.

I am very selective about my chick flicks, and I will never watch either of these. Mama Mia looked painful. What happened to you, Colin Firth?!?!

Tonya said...

Awww, I was hoping Mama Mia was going to be good, but I hadn't had a chance to see it yet.

I know all about messy playrooms! I am sitting in one right now. When these kids go to bed, and my husband leaves for his dentist apptmt, I am hoping to secretly get rid of some of these toys. My husband hates when I do that, but I can't stand how messy it is!

I hate it when I line up chick flicks and it flops! On the other hand, "Take Home Chef" always delivers! ;)

Cute blog!

Kristina-
GOOD FOR YOU!! DO NOT watch Mamma Mia EVER!! I agree with the whole Colin Firth thing and he can't sing worth a crap either!!

I need to have a chick flick Saturday. But I don't want one where I regret the movie choices! I'm sorry they were a bummer, but I'm glad you got some time to yourself!

Chick flicks are almost always a bust for me. Seems there are a lot of bad ones out there.

I love a good chick flick, but if it sucks it is so not worth it! Sorry they were bummers. I haven't seen either. I knew we were soul sisters when you said you should've watched food network all day. That's what I love to do!

Serious!?! You didn't like Mamma Mia? It seems to be all the rage. Maybe its a good thing I haven't bothered to see it. As for the second movie, I hadn't heard of that one, maybe we will keep it that way!

Every time I see Meg Ryan and her LIP, I cringe. yuuckkk.... Whatever she did, it didn't help!

I was planning on avoiding those movies anyway, but now I definitely will.

when in doubt...head to lifetime for cheesy chick movies! Saying hi from BSU!!

Thanks for the movie review! Glad you at least had some Chick time.

I'm so glad to read your review of Mamma Mia! I had been wanting to see this but my sister said it was a waste of time and now after reading your review, I definitely won't be wasting my time!

I saw The Women when it first came out and thought it was okay. So predictable but I loved Jada Pinkett-Smith and Debra Messing in it! They totally made the movie!

I'm visiting from BSU...congrats on being named Top Blog! I can see why you were chosen!!

I never wanted to see either of those, but I could watch the food network. I'd just have to get cable.

Oh man. Mamma Mia! (emphasis theirs). My gay brother didn't even like that show.

definately wont be seeing mama mia now! but I do want to see the women pretty bad! I saw bride wars which was soooo funny!

rachel said...

Sorry your chick flick Saturday wasn't that great. I don't think I could watch The Women just because of Meg Ryan's lips. They really need their own zip code. :) Yea for the food network!!

LOVE this layout by Lee! ;)

Haven't seen Mama Mia yet. Saw the play and it rocked, so movie is probably not good comparably.

Saw The Women and had the same reaction as you, it was 'ok'.

I must be horrible because I loved Mama Mia and I won't tell you the amount of times I have seen it... I to thought it was hilarious and laughed alot when Pierce was singing and yeah, I probably wouldnt buy an album of his but I thought his singing on the movie was funny. I guess it is a good thing we all don't like the same things... maybe it was the music that hooked me.

Here from BSU -

I actually loved Mama Mia--but you are right about Peirce singing. He was AWFUL!

Nice to *meet*you! (I'm LDS too:)

Bonnie the Boss said...

I found MamaMia to be painful as well. The only highlight for me was Pierce. Singing or not... Yummy! Preferably not though.

Lara Neves said...

I really loved Mamma Mia, but I think it's one of those polarizing movies. Now, Pearce cannot sing. It is true. I think that the decision to cast him was a little odd. Colin actually sings pretty nicely, though! And I'm always amazed at Meryl Streep and all she puts into her roles. Anyway. :)

PS I keep thinking I came to the wrong blog with Mina's picture on the side like that, LOL!

I am dropping by from blog stalkers, great blog. Glad you got some 'me' time even if the movies weren't the best. Your kids are super adorable.

If you get a chance, swing by and say hi. Have a good night.

You totally threw me off. Around here, BSU is Boise State Univ. I had to read that a couple of times to figure out what the heck you were talking about! So is that an award you got? COngrats. You certainly deserve it, my friend!

Thanks for the reviews. I hear such mixed ones about Mama Mia! I love ABBA, too, but I have to be honest--I'm not usually way too prudish about non-R movies, but the premise of this one to me sounds a little out of control. Some girls loved it, though. I don't know. I'd have to watch it sometime when Larry's outta town.

Christa said...

The problem is that you're watching the wrong kind of chick flicks. I have some you should borrow that are way better than either of those.

Hccm said...

I agree on both movies. The first movie was so horrible. I watched it a 2nd time to make sure it was that horrible. The women was much better than Mamma Mia, but not that much.

It makes you feel like you wasted hours of your life.

Whitney R said...

I wanted to see the Women... But your review... interesting. Maybe I don't want to watch it?

I'm sorry you had a bustful saturday!

thanks for the warning!
and a clean toy-room? awesome!

I LOVED Mama Mia and so did hubby! But we danced the nights away to Abba at the discos in our youth, so my guess is that nostalgia is what makes the rose colored glasses work with the movie. Ah well!

Fun Girl said...

I've heard Mamma Mia is good. It's nice to hear a different opinion. Now I can make an educated decision as to whether to watch it or not.

Paige said...

huh, I wanted to see both of those. I love Debra Messing too--with some meat on her bones, she is stunning

Kirsty said...

Oh WOW! So relieved to hear that someone else hated that movie!!! Everyone else raves about it, and I couldn't even stil through the whole thing!

LOL@ the faking sick to get out of cleaning the playroom, that happend here a LOT!

Just SO said...

I enjoyed Mama Mia! but that's okay that you didn't. I'll still read your blog and comment.

I want to see The Women.

Sheri, RN said...

I wanted to see Mamma Mia, but haven't yet. It is on my NetFlix Que. I'll prob still try it out, but thanks for the info in advance! :)

P.S. - I awarded ya with something over at my blog. :)

I'm just glad I'm not the only one that was amazed they let Peirce sing...it was so painfully horrible! I really liked The Women, but I saw it in the theater with my girlfriends...which I think helped my liking of the film!

Sorry it was a bust. Have you seen P.S. I Love You? It is one of my favorite movies.

Jillene said...

Mary-
I own P.S. I Love You. I just tried these movies beacuse my SIL dropped them off for me.

Wendyburd1 said...

How could you hate Mamma Mia (besides Pierce who is horrid)?!!

And if you need names of GOOD chick flicks, by all means, ASK!!

Jillene said...

Wendy-
It really was painful. The acting was terrible and the singing was worse. I LOVE ABBA and I think that they ruined their songs.

You deserve top blog! Your place is awesome! I had a feeling about that movie...it's one I would pick up, put back, pick up, put back...when there's a question, there's usually a reason.
