37 And Going Through Puberty........Again

Seriously--every time I look in the mirror I want to cry. I have ginormous zits ALL OVER MY FACE!! WTH?! It started off with a big one on my chin and a big one on my forehead. They are still there--though just red and small bumps now, but I am POSITIVE that they are multiplying and replenishing the surface of my face EVERY NIGHT!! STOP IT!! Stop having random zit sex while I am sleeping!! It really is getting annoying. I have tried Proactiv and it burned my face. So I got this:

And I like it. I am hoping that it will work. If not--then it's off to a Dermatologist for me.

**Side Note: If you have met me or know me you know I don't wear make-up. And truth be told I really don't know how to. I need something to hide the atrocities on my face but I have no idea where to begin. How do you choose a color to match your skin? What brands are best? Any help or advice would be MUCH appreciated.**

If you don't normally wear make-up and are prone to break outs I would suggest Clinique or Bare Minerals. I have very sensitive skin and those two have worked the best on me. I was make-up clueless until I went into the Sephora and Bare Minerals store and had them pick out items for me and it really is a test and try type of deal. Best of luck!

I like Bare Minerals too. Honestly, I've used Proactiv for many years. I still get minor pimples, but overall, my face is so much clearer.

Kristina--
I used it for a month and it just kpet burning and irritating my skin. The commercial says that it is now gentler than ever so maybe I could give it another try but it scares me a little becuase of what it did before.

Jillene, don't use proactive again if you had it burning you the first time. You could be allergic to something in the product and it might be more gentle but that doesn't mean you won't still be allergic. Stick with the one that you are using because you are happy with it. Do you want me to take you shopping for foundation (yes, I know you and Amber call it mouse poop but I love it) and then just a little bit of blush?

Cetaphil is great. I bet you have very good results with it.

I also have never really worn make up b/c as a teenager with early morning seminary, I saw it as time better spent sleeping. And, I also don't really know how to wear it, but I just deal with each break out as it comes and watch people stare at the red mounds ;o)

I broke out this week too! I use neutragena--I've struggled with cystic acne and constant, terrible acne since I was 12 and I've been on every prescription known to man. The orange neutragena in the bottle has worked best for me, and their make up wipes don't dry my skin out or irrate my acne.

Tooth paste, and I mean the paste kind works really good on zits overnight. just a little dot on each zit and they really dry up before morning. Plus your face is mity fresh!
I use cheap make-up, but if you have the $ to do the other stuff, that is what I would recommend.

I am 35 and just started having this problem too! I have been thinking of trying Proactive, but to be honest I was hoping it would just go away on its own. My daughter's questioning me everyday what is all over my face. Its pretty embarassing for me, if you find something that definitely works, please let us know!

"random zit sex" haaaaaaahahahahaha. That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Too funny.

I went to the dermatologist when I was about 25 for this same reason. He actually recommended cetaphil. I really like it and still use it now. I liked proactive as well, but I just couldn't use all the products. It made my face dry out pretty bad if I did. Especially the face scrub stuff. But, I really liked thier moisturizer. It's been a while since I've used it though.

But ya, adults should not get acne. It's just wrong!! Like we don't have enough to deal with.

Oh man, that sucks! It always helps me to get on birth control. It regulates the hormones. I always got more zits in Utah because of the dry climate.

I swear by a book called: Skin Type Solution by Leslie Baumann. It's not a quick fix but makes all the difference LONG TERM. I read through the first chapters, took the quick and found out my skin type. The book taught me that I was using all the wrong things and in the wrong order. I found it at my local library.

*took the quiz

P.S. The author outlines specific products (in all price ranges) and lays a regime step by step.

ZIT SEX! Too funny, and oddly sexy.
I don't know anything about makeup, other than you put it on your face.

I always just go to the makeup counters at department stores and ask them to tell me what to do.

oh gosh, you are so funny! my daughter would die if I told her that. LOL
Thanks for the tip about cetaphil my 2 girls are having a small bout.

You want to neutralize your skin and try to balance the red.

they make a colored zit cream. I can't remember the name but I think you should get fair or ivory.

You don't want to use anything to clog your pores more. A natural mineral powder like bare minerals or bare essentials would be good.

REVLON!

It is the ONLY thing that covers my acne at ALL.
My acne is moderate, so trust me, I KNOW what works.

It won't clog pores.

Don't get the "Tinted" acne medicine.
It's dark brown.
It's bad.

I tried proactive too but it was too strong and irritated my skin. I've always been pimply, but I use St. Ives apricot scrub and it helps me because i'm oily and dry--combination skin i guess. Anyways a couple times a week and it does the trick.

Any other time I use Mac cosmetics. The high coverage powder and it completely covers all my pimples.... its so easy to apply--just get a brush and brush it all over your face. Buy a cheap apricot or bronzer blush and some gloss, and youre set for the day!

I can't use Proactiv either. Most of the time I used St. Ives apricot scrub (for blemish and blackhead control - there are several). As for make-up, I'm with you, but if I *have* to wear make-up, I use Bare Minerals.

Just found you and am in love - with your blog that is! I like you loathe acne, but have found that Loreal Infallible foundation covers very well. I cant wear mineral, it makes my face itch too bad.
When you find a good thing to stop the acne, make sure to share!

I'm like you and never wear makeup, but had to wear a ton of it yesterday. I like the Clinique stay matte pressed powder. It gives you a little coverage, but doesn't clog your pores. I've tried all sorts of foundations/ powders, etc., including Neurtragena, and this is the only one that didn't leave me really shiny and make me break out right away. With everything else, I would be broken out terribly that same night.

I seem to be getting a bit of breakouts about twice a month! It's freaking me out! I do use Cetaphil too and really like it.

Get out in the sun or go fake baking. I was once told that the sun drys up your skin and also the zits. (It's probably not a long term solution but when I was in HS and wanted to fake bake I always thought of that because I had 1 good reason. Haha)

I used to use Proactive but it didn't work too well on me either. I've been breaking out like crazy but it might be dermatitis herpatitis or w/e it is for celiac disease.... it sucks majorly!

I use Loreal or Neutrogena makeup - concealer and then foundation... then I put on a little bit of powder over that and then some blush to hide it... but only when going somewhere. If I'm staying home I don't wear any.

GL and let me know how it goes for you.

I hope you had a good Valentine's Day!

Go to your dermatologist. I love mine. He helps me out.

That happened to me once and it turned out I was pregnant.

I am 30 and having the same problem. I went to the doctor and tried everything and even proactive and none of it helped. So I was at target and decided to try something else because I was so tired of the way my face looked. I got Clearasil 4 hour stuff and it works so good, I still get a few here and there around my period but not that bad at all i can still go out and not feel like everyone is looking at me, and it was not as much money as all that other stuff I was buying and I noticed a difference rather fast.

I just reviewed an acne cleanser and toner over at my blog, and I really liked it. It is called Perricone.
