We have lived in our house for 9 years. Pretty much everything needed to be re-done. We started with the living room, then did the kids rooms, then the kitchen and now the bathroom. It was SO 1970's. There was special laminate on the floor which was no problem. Then there was green speckled tile in the shower--UGLY but not to hard to get out. Finally there were the walls. It seems that wallpapering and then painting over the wallpaper was quite popular since there were 3 LAYERS of it. UGH!! We can't seem to get the last layer off----which has probably been there since the early 70's so it looks like we are texturing the walls. Oh well. Then behind the vanity and toilet there was this really special fake tile wall board. NICE----Matt got it all off but under it was MASSIVE amounts of adhesive. So----after consulting our tile guru's----we are tiling 1/2 way up the wall. Before pics:
Matt tried really hard to get all of the tiling done this weekend but he had some set backs (heavy rain and the fact that he would have to measure almost every tile and then go downstairs and outside to cut tile and then sometimes forget the measurement and then have to come back in and upstairs (0; etc., etc.). But here is the progress so far. The floor is done and is just waiting for grout and he did get pretty far on the shower:
I can't wait until it is all finished. I will post pictures of the finished bathroom hopefully by the end of this week. I just wanted to say thanks to our tile guru's for all of their time, tools and advise. It is MUCH appreciated (hope Billy liked the crab salad--there is a BIG bowl coming later this week). Also I just wanted to say that I am so thankful that my husband ROCKS. It's looking great Matt!!

Can't wait for the finished product. And I'm sure you can't wait either!
It looks great so far!
And I love that dark tile. I have some faux tiles like it in our kitchen.
The joke around our place is that my husband is just going to buy me a new one. Like our lame dishwasher. And he's so good he's going to get my a new house to put it in too!
nothing compares to the finishing of a good remodel! It looks great so far. I really like the tile around the tub/shower!!
It looks amazing! I can't imagine what the finished product will look like :) It's so fun to get a "new" house. Also, I've cut TONS of tile and what helped is we would use pencil to trace the line I needed to cut so I only had to measure once. Yeah, it starts to get taken off as the water hits it but I usually can see it well enough. Or you can use chalk. Whatever works! :)
I can only imagine how hard it must be to do work like this yourselves. Good for you! It will be sooo nice when it is done.
I'm impressed that you're doing this yourselves!
I think my mom has that same green speckled tile in her shower.
I'm also impressed you're undertaking this project yourselves. (Or your husband is, whatever.) Yay.
We have been in our home 18 years and did this same thing. Aren't handymen husbands the greatest? We just took it one room at a time, over the course of the many years here. It does get to a point where you feel like it's time to start over. (grrr)
How fun for your family though to have a fun update. Enjoy!!
Looks amazing! I am jealous of husbands like yours. Mine is great, but he isn't very handy. I'm the one that would be in there tiling if we were doing this project. :)
you will be so happy when it is done!
besides all the bonding time..
why can't me write down measurements??
saves time all around!
i don't think i ever told you how much i love the new look around here! love the colors!
I can't wait to see it all done! I want to do our bathroom so badly! Love the tile!
Wow! That's a lot of work! Good luck. I really like the color of the tile your are doing! Gorgous!
p.s. I was great to meet you on Saturday! I had great time...so glad I went!
I too have a love/hate relationship with home renovation. I have the process, but love the end result. It's looking great so far!
That looks great!! I can't wait to see it when it's finished!
Oh that is going to be nice! We have the yellow speckled tile in our upstairs bathroom and a lovely avocado green toilet downstairs. My house rocks.
Gotta LOVE Revamping your home! You will feel so amazing when it's all done, I think you feel more love for your home when it's just how you want it! I can't wait to see results!

It's looking great! I am always impressed with people who have such skills to do this work on their own! My husband and I are Dumb and Dumber when it comes to fixing things. Can't wait to see the finished product!
it really is looking good!
can't wait to see the finished product.
Looking good!!!!
It looks good so far. And I am sure you will LOVE it when it is done!!
I can't wait to see the "after" pictures!
Matt is pretty awesome! I would love a DIY husband.
I hear you! It's so much work to constantly be re-doing. We've been in the same boat for almost five years. It makes SUCH a mess. But my husband rocks too...he's able to do it, which is far better than paying my arm and my leg to do it :)
Hey, looks like it's coming together!
This is why I like renting. We leave if it ever gets too messed up.
Let it be said that we've never had to leave for that reason. But if something were to happen, we could do it!
It's looking good! I want to learn how to do tile and tile my downstairs shower and then do a backsplash in my kitchen. It terrifies me though.
I'd like to tile all of our entire bathroom walls, the ceiling and the cupboards with a drain in the floor. That way I could hose down the bathroom everyday!
It will look beautiful! You are a lucky gal to have your husband know what he is doing! We would just hire people ;) I can't wait to see the finished product!
I hate remodeling! I do love how it looks when it is done though. Your hubs is doing a great job and I can't wait to see the final pics!
In the middle it is so hard to see how worth it all that it will be!

It always feels crazy when rooma re torn apart, but this is going to be so great! Ia m so jealous,...we have so much to do in our home!
Can't wait to see the pictures.
That tile is going to look amazing when it is all finished. You will be so happy with the final product. We had our bathroom redone a few years back. I am still loving it!

he does rock! I am so jealous. I need a tile man!
Oh wow! Y'all are ambitious!!!
Just hoping that he can finish the job…
A few years back I tackled our kitchen and removed the wall paper which was circa 1970. I painted all of the walls except behind the refrigerator— which is still unpainted even today. I'll have to post on the fun I had with the adjoining wall to the bathroom.
Thanks for stopping by,
