Saving The Earth--Blah!!

I have this child.

When he gets something in his head--oh boy!! He is JUST like his dad. Once it's in is head he will stop at NOTHING until it is done. Well for the past month or so, EVERY TIME we go to the grocery store, Z INSISTS that we need to save the earth and buy these:

We tell him no every time because they are like a whole $1.00 or something. Why pay $1.00 when I can get the plastic bags for FREE?! Anyway--the entire time at the store is full of this:

The begging and pleading. He does it NON STOP through-out the shopping trip. And if it is our big shopping day----that means that I have to listen to him for an hour. UGH!!

If that's not bad enough--when we get home and for the next several days I get to listen to him do this:

He nags me about it CONSTANTLY. He has learned in school the importance of saving the earth and he is constantly reminding me that I suck at it. Stupid school!! Now yesterday we needed to stop at my "Grocer in the Neighborhood" and he started in. But this time it was worse because he recruited these two hooligans:

So that made all three of them begging and nagging us. My husband finally gave in and we let them pick out 10 Go Green bags. Now do you honestly think that I am going to remember to bring those suckers to the store every time I go?!?! I doubt it. I can hardly remember yesterday.

Jillene, I am so disappointed in you. What kind of values are you teaching your kids that it's OK to save the earth?!?!

At least now it should stop the whining. Make it his responsibility to remember them. That way it's HIS fault if you forget and kill the planet. That'll show him.

That is my biggest problem..I FORGET THEM. ALWAYS. I even tried keeping them in the car. Then I just forget to take them in the store. I like Jessica's idea to make it his responsibility to remember them. Smart!

I have them. They sit in my car about 50% of the time. But when I DO remember to bring them into the store, I feel all trendy granola and tree-huggerish and stuff.

Hahaha Gramee!! We had to buy a few green, a few light orange, a few purple and a few blue. Now I have some in every color--yippee!!

Kristina-
It wasn't me it was the school that corrupted my children's minds.

Jessica-
That was the stipulation of buying the bags. That he was in charge of remembering them. He was ALL for it. We will see how it goes.

I got some of these a while ago. I kept forgetting to bring them with me so I finally just put them in my car on a more permanent basis. The advantage to them is that you can pack a lot more into them because if you load them up they dont break. All my groceries fit into 8 bags now! It ROCKS!!! (wow I am excited by stupid stuff!)

lol that is cute. My Mom and I use the canvas bags, but we do forget them sometimes. Most of the time though we do remember. It just takes a little getting used to. At Wal-Mart they have blue ones for 50 cents each, not too bad. :)

ok, I was with you, "why would I buy bags at a buck a pop when I can have bags for free"...and then my mom made me a really big one, and bought me a couple of the store ones, and guess what? The amount of groceries that I used to have to make three trips in and out of the house to bring in, can now all come in in one trip, because the bags hold so much more and they don't do things like rip and drop entire bottles of mayonnaise out the bottom to smear all over the drive.
I actually LOVE carrying my cloth bags, but it took me a couple tries to remember them, I'll admit.

I am evile too, because I kind of don't think plastic bags are ruining our earth....BUT I do have a couple of those. I forget to grab them every time. I mostly like them for quick trips and then I don't have to use a cart in the store...BUT
beware- studies show that re-useable bags tested were swabbed and found traces of yeast bacteria, salmonela, food traces and other nasty things. So unless your bleaching it every time you use it they are totally unsanitary as you handle your food packages.
Ick.

I haven't done this yet, but I'm afraid I would forget them too! Well at least you know you will always be reminded three times over :) Too cute!

Oh those little ones will NOT forget to bring them. I say let them haul the groceries in since they wanted the bags so bad.

I always buy one everytime I go to the commissary...but always forget to take them in with me!

That is my problem. I have the bags, I have good intentions. The memory? Not so much. Hopefully you can recruit the boy into helping you remember to BRING the bags with you! I like your kids. You and Kristina need to start your own ruin the earth club.

Good for you! I throw my canvas bags back in my car right after I unload the groceries so they are always in there.

Lee said...

Well, if you start using them you will be helping something.
We don't use them.

I have been using these bags for awhile and I LOVE them! They hold more stuff, they don't break like my stupid plastic one did with pickles in it and cause a big embarassing scene and as soon as I put groceries away they go in the back of my car. I have been in the line and realized I forgot them and the guy let me go to my car to get them. They are also handy for other things around the house and they really are sooo much better for the environment. I know I am your good friend and all but I agree with Z on this one. What a good little Weblo I have!!

SPENCER LOVES THE DOGGIE PICTURE. I THINK HE LOVES IT, TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH.

Ha Ha! We haven't bought the Harmon's bags but we do have other cloth bags that I keep in the van for just such a purpose. Now if I could only remember to bring them in the store with me. Walking back out to the van after remembering I forgot to bring them in is just out of the question. :)

Bags are in the car now let's see if I remember to take them into the store.

Apparently I'm an earth-hater, because I don't have and have no intention of getting the green bags. I do have a nice collection of toxic plastic bags in my pantry.

I bought some bags and forget to take them ALL the time. But I get some dollars off for every bag I bring so that's a plus!

I'm excited to go see his post :D

I love mine, I only get one at a time. I don't always remember them but they are great and I do get a nickle everytime I use one at the grocery store so I get a little money back. I used them to haul all my crap to girls camp!
