What's For Dinner?

I make a 2 week menu every other Friday. It consists of the things that I will cook for dinner on each night of the week. For my own sanity and for the well-being of my hubby and children I choose to have 2 "no cook" days each week. One being Wednesday and the other being Saturday. Oh yeah--I also NEVER have to cook on Sunday because my mom takes care of that--did I mention that she is an amazing cook and I love her? Anyhoo--this is what we had for dinner tonight. Myself and Hannah each had a bowl of this:

Zach and Olivia each had a bowl of this:

After that I gave each one of the kids one of these:

And then, because they needed their last daily allowance of fruit, I gave them each a package of these:

What a well rounded meal huh?! I feel so proud!! I have NO idea what Matt is going to eat when he comes home--leftovers from last night maybe?! Sounds good!!

Sounds like my nightly dinner!

You have everything so well planned out! My goal is to figure SOMETHING out for dinner mostly every night. Usually it's warm. Frequently it's cereal. In fact, my husband will be out of town for the next two nights so I'm pretty sure that's what we will be having!

cereal nights are the BEST. sometimes i just do not feel like cooking AT ALL. i don't even feel like making PB&J's....now you know that's just plum lazy huh? mother of the year is in the hizzy. fo real though...we always have at least 10 boxes of cereal in the pantry. i love cereal. i have gone on cereal diets before and they work. but if you eat a ton of fiber you have bad smelly gas. lots of it.

Mmmm, TWINKIES!! IT'S BEEN SO LONG!!!

Oh.. you rock. That's the best kid dinner ever.

And you also rock because you plan dinners. Someday, when I have kids. I'm going to do that too!

Oh. And we got Hannah's picture! I love it. It's sooo cute. She's awesome. Tell her that we love it and it's on our fridge. :)

Sounds like a well balanced, nutritional meal. It covered all of the sugar groups.

My kids LOVE cereal night! They complain that I don't fix them 'real' breakfast when they have cereal in the mornings, but cereal for dinner is another story!

My sister-in-law makes it a rule that cereal for dinner is a once a week thing, like clockwork.

I loooovvvveee cereal.
And fruit snacks.

My husband has always done the cooking (I know I am lucky!!), but he is also gone about every other nice...so I have become an expert scavenger...and cereal is one of my favorite breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks. It is too easy! Great choice on the twinkies!!

I swear they changed Twinkies, cuz I had my first in 3 years two weeks ago...YUCK! The cereal and fruit snacks sound yummers though!! We have a diner night on Thursdays, Monday is Sandwich night and Saturday is takeout night...those are my fave nights....easy. I end up being the only one who DEFINITELY makes a meal every week, so I love easy!

GREAT DINNER! you cook more than me! me cooking is McDonalds, just kidding!
my son would love you, last year on his birthday party I asked him what his very favorite food in the world was, he said cereal, so we had a cereal and pj party!

Kristen said...

I agree with Wendyburd1 about the twinkies I don't like them UNLESS they are frozen. Try that Wendy and see if that makes it better because they say that if we have a nuclear war that twinkies will survive...

When my kids were young, they LOVED the nights I "let" them eat cold cereal. I am sure your kids are singing sugary high praises to you!

I make a weekly schedule and cook mon-fri. The weekends my husband takes over dinner duty, so pretty much every Saturday we have ramen noodles or cereal. My favorites are soggy Life and honey bunches of oats with almond.

Now that's my kind of dinner!!

My kids love cold cereal. I finally had to make a rule that they only get to eat it for breakfast because they were eating an entire box every day.

Today my kids ate fudge for breakfast.

What would your mother say!!!

I try not to let the Dan pick out cereal at the store. He always chooses by the prize inside!

Your kids are thinking your one awesome mom right about now! Sweet!

it's been years since i've had a twinkie! what time should i be over next week?!?

My kids love soggy cereal. It all happened when they left their cereal out on the table for a couple hours (shows what a good mom I am) then they ate it! (YUCK) The next day they wanted the soggy cereal again. SO we started to microwave it! That was over four years ago. They are still doing it! Their dad refuses to microwave it for them. He thinks they are strange children. Hummm wonder where they get it from? Now they are old enough to microwave it them selfs. I think its become one of those wierd family eating habits that their friends future spouces will wierd out on. They will eat that for any meal that I don't want to make for them. Which is most.

That is so funny and I completely relate!! I HATE cooking. If I can get away with a bowl of cereal for dinner, then I'm happy!

We have many a night like this one. Ours typically runs more along the lines of Gold Fish Crackers, Top Ramen and then the Fruit Snacks.

We're having that for dinner tonight only for dessert we are having donuts. Yum

Jillene said...

I am SO glad that I am not the only one that has "no cook" dinners!!

Annette-
There are some cereals that taste better a little mushy--how lnog do you microwave it for?

Our "no cook" nights vary from cereal to mac & cheese to sushi sandwiches (he he--remember that one?) to PB&J to cans of soup to top ramen--I like to provide a variety!!

What a great dinner!

Just add paper plates and bowls and this could actually work!

I get all extra twinkies.

Goob said...

I can just see your menu plan on the fridge with "Frosted Mini Wheats and Twinkies" listed. Are you absolutely sure the kids didn't take the marker and prematurely mark off the dinners you'd already had to trick you into thinking it was Cereal and Twinkie night a little sooner than planned?

Lisa-
Actually my menu goes something like this:

Monday - Swiss Chicken, White Rice & Veggies

Tuesday - Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes & Cooked Carrots

Wednesday - Get Your Own!!

Thursday - Ham, Eggs and Toast

Friday - BBQ Hamburgers/Hot Dogs, Cottage Cheese and Chips

Saturday - Get Your Own!!

That way there is NO flubbing or trickery--I'm too smart for that!! (0;

Krissy-
Thanks!! Seriously--if I don't do 2 no cook days I would rip my hair out trying to figure out 4 more meals--which would lead to me being mean and nasty!! (0:

Hello! Teresa is my cousin and said I should check out some of the people she blogstalks. I just wanted to say hi and thank you for admitting to the cereal night. This happens more than I would like to admit in my home. Of course, we all love cereal so it works out quite well. Great blog! I will check back often.

I have got to get more organized. Making out a menu for two weeks. You're a smart cookie!

Lisa-
It makes my life SO much eaiser!! This way I don't have to sit and freak out about what is for dinner each night. I let everyone hav input as to what they would like and it works out really well.

It is also really nice for grocery shopping because I make my list according to my meals--makes it VERY easy!!

I know how you feel. So instead of no cook days, I have given each person a day to cook. Darryl gets 2 days. They have to be on his days off but I am ok with that. I have to help Joshua but I make Michaela do it by herself. I mean I am there to tell her how but for the most part she does the cooking.

Yummy! My kids would have loved eating at your house!

So, this is good for a dinner but it doesn't top what my sister feeds her kids for breakfast.

Cheetos and Mtn. Dew.

OH YEAH!!!

Jillene said...

Cheetos and Mt. Dew--SWEET!! How can they even eat that for breakfast? I think I would puke!!

Annette Anthony said...

I know my reply is very late but we microwave the cereal for 45 seconds to 1 minute. then they usually wait for it to cool down a couple minutes.
