The Five O'Clock Kid

Z has this thing in his head that he has to eat dinner at 5:00 on the dot. No sooner no later. Every night at 5:00 he is asking where dinner is. Sometimes I am ready at 5:00 and sometimes I am not. Like last night--I wasn't ready until about 5:15 and I swear, on all that is good in the world, that kid asked me EVERY minute past 5:00 if dinner was ready yet until it was. So--that means for 15 minutes I got to hear, "Is it ready yet?" I was ready to be committed by 5:15 last night!! I guess having to eat at 5:00 every night is a good thing for when he becomes geriatric. He will have no problem going from 5:00 to 4:30!! (0:

haha my dinner wasn't ready until 7:30 the other night. I wonder what would've happened if he were in MY family? yikes. (Okay but it's just me who's affected by this.)

I have one of those too. Well..not 5 but 4:30. Can make you want to pull out all the hair on your head one at a time.

Wow, man you are good, 5:00 dinner every night?! We are all over the place from 6 to 9:30 sometimes. Sundays are the only times that we eat a 5 b/c we come home from church at 4:30 and we are starving! That will probably change in Jan. when we start church at 9am.

Hey Jilene! I got my elf from Amazon! You really should think about getting one for next year even if fit is too late to start this year. Although, you might be able to find one at your book store in time for this year! It is awesome!!!!!

I don't think he would survive at my house!

At least you know he does well on a schedule. use it to your advantage, Mom!

this post reminded me of that song "it's 5:00 somewhere". ;)

He'd HATE my house where dinner is served regularly some time between 5:00 and 7:40.

My 18 month old is that way too and my hubby's not home until 5:30-6 so it's either we eat in shifts (which I hate) or she's snacking and then doesn't want dinner. aaah!

Kids are so funny how they get so set in their ways & schedules! You are a good mom having dinner by 5 everytime!

Ha! I would want to be committed to if my kid did that. At least he knows what he wants and when he wants him. Be sure to warn his future wife about it though! ;)

That's sooo funny! Tell him he'd really suffer at my house. I don't get home from work until 6:00'ish!

My middle child asks about dinner starting five minutes after she started lunch. It continues on until I actually finish dinner. I feel you, it's crazy annoying!

THAT IS SO FUNNY. MY DINNER SCHEDULE IS SUCH A MESS. BABY GODZILLA AND I EAT ANTIME BETWEEN 5 AND 8 (I KNOW THAT IS NOT GOOD) AND MY HUSBAND WILL NOT EAT UNTIL AFTER 9PM. IT CAN SUCK, BUT THAT IS WHAT I GET FOR BEING MARRIED TO A MAN IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS. HIS BEDTIME IS AROUND 3 OR 4 AM. WE HAVE TOTALY OFF HOURS.

My stomach starts growling around 4:30, and if I'm not eating by 5:15 I'm a bear to be around. He kind of sounds like me. I even whine.

HAHAHAHA Erin!! You would fit RIGHT in at my house!!

Hilarious. Kids are so funny, how they get set in their ways.

So...is dinner ready yet?
Now? Now? Now?

Sorry, I had to do it.

By 5:03 I would have said "No its not and if you ask again, you will not get any." Which of course I would have to then enforce, which would make me feel like a horrible mother, which would make me cry, but at least he would not ask me again the next night. Or would he?

I used to be like that. Anything past 6 and I wanted to know where my dinner was.
Now it's anything past 6:30. But really, that's still too darn late for me. I'm hungry all the time!
Maybe eventually he'll grow out of it, or learn how to fix his own dinner.

When I was a kid, dinner was at 5.. no matter what. It's still like that at my mom's. I try and have it a little looser.

Oh, and I love your blog! Newbie here!

It's 6:11 right now, and I haven't even thought about what I'm going to make for dinner.
The kids just went and shoveled the snow off of the neighbor's driveway and were rewarded with a huge plate of cookies which they snarfed down immediately so I think that should totally count as their dinner. Besides, our driveway is still covered with snow because apparently, our driveway "isn't as fun to shovel" as the neighbors driveway.

hahaha that is funny. I'm excited to be able to make dinner every night (or at least 5 out of the 7) for my family. When I'm in school it is nearly impossible.

My kids have no idea when dinner is at this house. I'm so bad! Just whenever I throw food at them, it's dinner time. It could be 5:30 or 8:30. I should get better about that!

Hey, the earlier they eat the earlier they go to bed, right?

He is too cute! When my son asks me if dinner is ready I make him help! (set the table, get drinks, stir something) Give it a try. It will save your sanity.

Too funny! My kids ask what we are having for dinner 400 times and each time they ask I tell them "Food". You would think they would quit asking at some point.

Annette Anthony said...

My poor kids are clueless. I have never had a set time. They go by their stumachs. Then they start to beg for food. It's like lord of the flies around here
Oh, ya schedules whats a schedule? The only thing that word is good for.... Is acting like a Brittish person and saying it in snooty Brittish accent!

'Is it time some tea and Crumpets? I have to check
my SHED-ZU-AL.'
